TH RCI Report Submitted for Full Investigation: Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has been forwarded to pertinent authorities for a comprehensive investigation, as stated by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. The authorities include the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), bodies responsible for the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA), Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision to transfer the report to these authorities follows an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The investigation will be based on the findings and additional information provided by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan during a special Dewan Rakyat session on the RCI report. Fahmi Fadzil shared these details with reporters after attending the Handover of Sponsorship Contributions for the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.

The TH RCI report, released to the public on July 29, outlined several management and operational flaws at TH from 2014 to 2020 and suggested 25 improvements. As of July 30, TH had implemented 75% of these recommendations. Amidst calls from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for a new RCI covering 2021-2025, Fahmi noted that any decision to establish another RCI would require approval from both the Cabinet and the King.

Fahmi also commented on the attendance of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs at the Dewan Rakyat session to debate the RCI report, contrasting it with other opposition parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN) who did not attend. He noted the irony in their absence, as PAS members and the Leader of the Opposition, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, were part of the Cabinet when the RCI was initiated.

The debate on the RCI report featured contributions from 39 MPs following a ministerial briefing by Zulkifli at the special Dewan Rakyat session. However, some opposition MPs walked out and boycotted the sessions, objecting to proceeding without Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's presence.
