Local Farmer Shot Dead In Banting, Police Detain Suspect

Banting: A 52-year-old local farmer was shot dead in front of a house believed to be occupied by his child in Teluk Bunut, Banting, on Tuesday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar stated that the victim died at the scene after being hit by several shots in the incident between 10.30 pm and 11 pm. Police received information about the incident at about 11.15 pm. Investigations revealed that the premises was rented by the victim's child and was unoccupied at the time. The victim is believed to have gone there to check on the house.

Shazeli highlighted the absence of independent witnesses and a weapon at the scene, which complicated the investigation. However, the police had identified parties suspected to be linked to the incident. Following the incident, police detained a local man in his 20s to 30s around the Banting area late last night.

The man was brought to court today, and a two-day remand order was granted to assist in the investigation. The extent of this individual's involvement, whether as the main suspect or otherwise, is still under scrutiny. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
