Sunway Group Earns Global Recognition For Workplace Culture

Kuala lumpur: Sunway Group has earned the Great Place To Work (GPTW) CertificationS for the second consecutive year, with 93 per cent of staff surveyed saying Sunway is a great place to work, compared with 78 per cent in 2025. Sunway Group, in a statement, said the latest results also show an improvement in staff's early experience with the Group.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the certification covers Sunway's diverse workforce of more than 20,000 employees across 13 business divisions, spanning healthcare, education, real estate, retail, hospitality, and theme parks, among others. The results reflect how people in vastly diverse roles, from theme park ambassadors and project engineers to neurosurgeons and professors, experience working at Sunway.

Sunway Group Chief Human Resources Officer Clayton Tan said this certification means a great deal because it reflects what their own people say about working at Sunway, not what they say about the group. "It shows the progress we've made in strengthening our workplace culture over the years. We are encouraged by the improvement, but we see this as a checkpoint and will continue working to ensure all in the Sunway family feel supported and valued," he said.

GPTW is a global authority on workplace culture, drawing on decades of employee feedback from organisations of every size and industry, which is collected through its confidential Trust IndexS employee survey, an assessment that measures trust, pride, and camaraderie at work using a consistent global framework. Unlike employer recognitions decided by judging panels, GPTW CertificationS is determined by employees' confidential feedback about their workplace experience. Employees respond to 60 standardised, research-backed statements, while participating organisations must meet GPTW's survey validity requirements.

To earn the certification, an organisation must achieve an overall Trust IndexS score of at least 65 per cent, and the certification is valid for 12 months, requiring organisations to undergo the assessment again to be recertified. The statement said GPTW recently published a dedicated case study examining Sunway Group's workplace culture, making Sunway the only Malaysian company to be featured in a dedicated case study on the GPTW Malaysia website.

The case study found that the top-scoring Trust IndexS statement was 'I'm proud to tell others I work here', with 86 per cent of employees in agreement. According to the statement, the case study also highlighted the decline in Sunway's overall staff turnover rate, from 23.69 per cent in 2022 to 13.98 per cent in 2025, alongside a workforce composition that nears a 50:50 gender balance and mirrors Malaysia's own ethnic diversity with strong representation through to board and senior leadership levels.

"These outcomes trace back to a philosophy that has guided Sunway for more than five decades: doing well by doing good. The belief that commercial success and social impact go hand in hand shapes how the Group supports the wellbeing, development, and growth of its people," the statement said. Initiatives include the Sunway Little Sunshine Childcare Centre, which has supported working parents since 2018, an Employee Assistance Programme offering free and confidential mental health counselling, alongside flexible working arrangements, as well as educational programmes promoting health and wellbeing. In addition, Kelab Sosial Sunway, the Group's social club, brings all staff together across its business divisions through sports, community service, and wellness activities.

The certification adds to a broader body of recognition Sunway has received as an employer, including the Life At Work Awards in 2024 and 2025, and the Gold Award for Employer of the Year at the HR Excellence Awards 2023. It said that at the Talentbank Graduates' Choice Awards 2024, Sunway was recognised as a Top 1 per cent Leading Employer in Malaysia and marked its fifth consecutive year as an award winner. In 2021, Sunway was also the only local private-sector company ranked among Randstad Malaysia's Top 10 Most Attractive Employers.

"For Sunway, the GPTW CertificationS represents an independent validation of a positive workplace culture the Group has built over more than five decades, one that continues to evolve alongside its people," the statement said.
