Rugby: PDRM Target Historic Agong’s Cup Three-Peat

Kuala lumpur: Defending champions Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are targeting a third straight Agong’s Cup title as they look to cement their dominance in domestic rugby.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, team manager SAC Nasri Mansor expressed the squad’s ambition clearly, with the police side having lifted the prestigious trophy in 2023 and 2024. They head into this year’s edition with confidence under a settled coaching and management setup. Nasri highlighted the team’s determination to achieve a third consecutive win, thanks to the support from PDRM leadership, sports partners, and the management and coaching staff.

Nasri mentioned that PDRM currently has around 80 players, including new imports, in training. The squad will be trimmed down to 40 to meet Malaysian Rugby (MR) requirements. Several friendly matches have been arranged to prepare the team for the competition. The team, coached by former national professional K. Dinesvaran, also known as Dugro, will compete in the Rujirawongse Cup in Chiang Mai, Thailand, early next month, aiming to defend the title won in Melaka last year. However, the tournament in Thailand will not include any import players.

The 2025 Agong’s Cup is scheduled from September 6 to October 25, with PDRM drawn in Group A alongside Kedah, Perlis, Selangor, and Kelantan. Group B features Johor, Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Terengganu, and Pahang. In the previous edition, PDRM were crowned champions after defeating Johor 43-29 in the final, securing their fifth title after previous triumphs in 1983, 1985, 1991, and 2023.
