Ahmedabad: National weightlifter Muhammad Aznil Bidin created a sensation by winning the gold medal in the 65 kilogramme (kg) category at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad, India today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in the competition at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist topped the competition after completing a total lift of 297kg, with a 125kg snatch and a 172kg clean and jerk.
He defeated the host representative, Raja Muthupandi, who won the silver medal, while Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea took home the bronze medal.
The championship, which is held from August 24 to 30, offered qualification points for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
