Seremban: Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has reminded PH leaders and election machinery not to betray the coalition if their names are not selected as candidates in the 16th State Election. He said all parties should accept the party's decision and continue working to ensure PH's victory in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aminuddin emphasized the importance of unity and support, urging party members and election machinery to back the chosen candidates wholeheartedly. 'To all party members and election machinery, I appeal that regardless of who is chosen as a candidate by our leadership, do not betray them. Continue to support them. This is a struggle of life and death,' he said when speaking at the launch of the PH election machinery.
The Menteri Besar stressed the significance of avoiding disputes over candidate selection in any state constituency, advocating for full support during the election. The event was also attended by Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, along with several top party leaders, including PKR information chief and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Aminuddin also called on voters residing outside the state to return home for polling day to fulfill their civic duty. 'Please come back and vote if you are living elsewhere. If possible, we want an 80 per cent voter turnout, not just 70 per cent. This is our opportunity and the right time to fulfil our responsibility by casting our votes,' he added.
The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, comprising 36 seats, was dissolved on June 5 with Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir's consent. The Election Commission has set August 1 as polling day for the state election, with nomination day on July 18 and early voting scheduled for July 28.
The 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election saw PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) forming the state government after securing 31 of the 36 seats. PH won 17 seats, BN 14 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) took the remaining five seats. Negeri Sembilan was the second state to dissolve its legislative assembly for a state election following Johor on June 1.
