Kuala lumpur: A total of 21,858 individuals, including former party leaders and members, have joined or returned to UMNO through the Rumah Bangsa initiative as of June 10. UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that this number was recorded from the official opening of online registration on April 20 until the UMNO Supreme Council meeting last Wednesday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Dr Asyraf highlighted that in less than two months, 21,858 new members and former UMNO leaders and members, including leaders from Bersatu nationwide, have registered or rejoined the party. He expressed hope for divine blessings upon Rumah Bangsa, acknowledging its significant contributions to religion, the Malay community, and the nation over eight decades of struggle.
Rumah Bangsa is a UMNO reunification initiative introduced by its president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, aiming to unite Malays and welcome former members back into the party. Notable figures rejoining UMNO through this initiative include former UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, and former foreign minister Tan Sri Dr Syed Hamid Albar. Additionally, former Kelantan UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and former Selangor UMNO chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar have also returned to the party.
