Malaysia’s Future Hinges on Human Capital Quality, Fadillah Asserts

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's future success will depend not only on economic strength or technological advancement, but also on the quality of its human capital, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said today. He emphasized the need for individuals who can think critically, communicate effectively, and adapt to change in an increasingly interconnected world.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah articulated these views while inaugurating the ADNI International Students' Conference (AISC) 2026. He pointed out that the challenges of tomorrow-such as climate change, public health, digital transformation, and social inequality-cannot be addressed in isolation. He stressed the importance of collaboration among governments, educational institutions, the private sector, civil society, and young people in tackling these issues.

Fadillah highlighted that the MADANI Government prioritizes human capital development as a core element of national progress. This approach echoes the principle championed by Malaysia's third Prime Minister, Tun Hussein Onn, who believed that a nation's strength lies in the unity and character of its people. Fadillah noted that while technology may connect devices, only shared values, mutual respect, and trust can truly connect societies.

He further elaborated that true development should encompass education, well-being, ethics, creativity, sustainability, and social cohesion. The conference, themed 'Thriving Together: Diversity, Education and Wellness in a Digital World', reflects the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by nurturing young people who understand the importance of quality education, inclusivity, strong institutions, and strategic partnerships.

Fadillah also reminded students that although artificial intelligence might advance, it would never replace wisdom, nor could technology replace compassion. AISC 2026 brought together approximately 150 local and international students, including delegates from Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, fostering an exchange of ideas and strengthening regional friendship and cooperation.
