BMW Vehicle Used by Prime Minister Is Existing Government Asset, Says JPM

Kuala lumpur: A luxury vehicle used by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently is an existing government asset and not a new official vehicle. The Prime Minister's Department (JPM), together with the Ceremonial and International Conference Secretariat Division (BIUPA), announced on Facebook that the BMW vehicle is an asset under BIUPA's supervision specifically for the country's official logistics use.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the asset is provided to meet international security protocols and standards during official visits by heads of state and government with the rank of president or prime minister to Malaysia. The vehicle is required to meet specially designed security specifications to withstand high-caliber ballistic threats, explosions, and modern security risks, including drone threats.

The statement from JPM highlighted that the use of the BMW by the Prime Minister is temporary and based on the advice and security assessment of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). It was clarified that this temporary change was necessary because the Prime Minister's official vehicle, which was gifted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, is undergoing regular maintenance.

The announcement was made to counter allegations and speculations circulating on social media regarding the ownership status of the luxury vehicle used by the Prime Minister.
