Melaka: The Melaka government plans to construct a new 12-kilometre road connecting the Kuala Linggi International Port (KLIP) to Ayer Molek, Kuala Sungai Baru, costing an estimated RM129 million, to strengthen the state's logistics network. State Public Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer stated that the road will pass through the Melaka Inland Port (MIP) area to optimise connectivity between nearby port networks.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the project is currently in the design stage by the Works Ministry and is expected to undergo the quotation, tender, and contractor appointment processes next year. "The new road will also shorten the travel distance from 28 kilometres to just about 12 kilometres, thereby increasing the efficiency of vehicle movement, particularly for the logistics sector," Datuk Hameed told reporters after the MIP groundbreaking ceremony performed by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Datuk Hameed mentioned that the state government also plans to upgrade the road network connecting port areas with the MIP, including widening the road from Tangga Batu to Sungai Udang, which connects to the Tanjung Bruas Port. He further elaborated on plans for another six-kilometre road from Telok Gong to Kampung Pulau and Paya Lebar, estimated to cost RM49 million, aimed at linking the area with the MIP.

He explained that the route from Paya Lebar to Kampung Pulau is currently in the quotation process, while the alignment from Kampung Pulau to Telok Gong is still in the design stage. "The project is expected to be completed by around 2028 or 2029 and will shorten travel time, besides providing a direct route from the port area to the MIP without passing through traditional villages," he added.
