KDN and JPN Reaffirm Legal Adherence in MyPR and Citizenship Procedures

Kuala lumpur: The Home Ministry (KDN), through the National Registration Department (JPN), has assured that the processes for granting Permanent Resident Identity Cards (MyPR) and Malaysian citizenship are conducted strictly and transparently, in accordance with legal statutes, following concerns raised about these issues.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JPN released a statement highlighting that the KDN and JPN are cognizant of the concerns expressed by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. They emphasized the importance of national sovereignty, security, and the well-being of the populace when granting PR status and citizenship.

The statement clarified that MyPR is exclusively issued to non-citizens who have successfully obtained PR status through an Immigration Department (JIM) approved entry permit. This permits them to live and work lawfully within the country. As of December 31, 2025, there are 261,156 MyPR holders recorded nationwide.

JPN reiterated that MyPR applications are strictly controlled based on valid entry permits from JIM, with the approval process adhering to criteria and evaluations set by the relevant department. An integrated cross-check between the JPN and JIM ensures that the submitted entry permits are valid and issued to eligible individuals.

Each MyPR application undergoes thorough review by the Approval Consideration Committee Panel, which convenes periodically to ensure careful and integrity-driven processes. The MyPR status may be revoked if holders are found involved in actions threatening security, public order, or national interests.

Regarding citizenship, JPN underscored that it is a high honor and an exclusive right of the federal government, not granted arbitrarily. Citizenship applications are processed based on Part III of the Federal Constitution and the Citizenship Rules 1964, considering national interests and the well-being of current citizens.

Both KDN and JPN assured that applications are processed in an orderly, transparent manner and in the correct sequence before any decision is made. They stressed the need for careful consideration to ensure citizenship is granted to truly eligible individuals, aligning with the Federal Constitution and related legislation, without compromising security or national interests.

The statement reaffirmed KDN and JPN's commitment to fulfilling their duties responsibly and with integrity, in line with the advice of the Pahang Sultan. This follows media reports of Al-Sultan Abdullah's concerns about PR status and citizenship grants, emphasizing the significance of trust, integrity, justice, and national dignity.
