Jalur Gemilang Case: Shop Owner Freed On Police Bail

Kepala batas: The owner of a hardware shop on Jalan Bertam Perdana in Kepala Batas has been released on police bail after having his statement recorded for allegedly flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down in front of his premises.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abd Rahman stated that the 59-year-old man, who was arrested on Saturday night, was released yesterday after police completed recording his statement. Anuar detailed that over 10 statements have been recorded to assist in the investigation, and the investigation papers have been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office for further instructions.

The case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Anuar assured that the investigation would be conducted transparently.

Police investigations revealed that the shop owner hoisted the flag upside down, and a worker recorded the incident, which subsequently went viral. Regarding reports of a planned protest over the incident, Anuar confirmed receiving information about the demonstration initially scheduled for today but advised against proceeding to maintain public order, given the ongoing investigations.
