Flood Relief Goods Should Go Through NADMA To Avoid Overlap – Nancy.

TUMPAT: Flood relief goods should be channelled through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), to ensure efficient and equitable distribution, said Women, Family, and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. She highlighted concerns about overlapping aid, where some flood victims received duplicate donations, while others were left out.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy Shukri mentioned that she has received reports of duplicate aid reaching some flood victims while others were neglected. She shared these insights during a press conference after visiting flood victims at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Tumpat 2. Nancy emphasized the importance of coordinating contributions from external parties through authorities like NADMA to ensure fairness in distribution.

She noted that repeated donations to the same individuals might result in others being overlooked, leaving them without necessary aid. “Therefore, we must prevent this from recurring. Today, we have come to
evaluate what needs to be prioritised for the next wave,” Nancy stated. She reassured that additional essential supplies have been stocked at storage depots to prepare for potential future floods.

Nancy also mentioned that her ministry is working on identifying other forms of assistance required by flood victims, including deploying teams for cleaning and restoring flood-damaged homes. A national-level meeting has been convened to prepare for an anticipated more severe flood wave. “Insya-Allah, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) will be there. We will not let the people face this hardship alone,” she assured.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast a monsoon surge from December 8 to 14, expected to bring continuous rain to the eastern regions of Peninsular Malaysia during this period.
