Kuala Lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called for all parties to refrain from exploiting the relocation issue of a temple on Jalan Masjid India for personal or political gains. He emphasized the importance of allowing the involved parties to resolve the matter peacefully and within legal boundaries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, highlighted that the landowner, Jakel Group, is working in collaboration with the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple management and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to facilitate the relocation and provide an alternative site. He stressed the need for external parties to refrain from interference and to respect the ongoing negotiations, as per the request of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Fahmi noted that the temple management had previously communicated their preferences for alternative locations, and DBKL, along with other parties, is managing the process to ensure harmony. He emphasized that Jakel Group is also committed to ensuring a peaceful and smooth relocation process.
The minister shared these remarks with reporters after attending an Iftar and Aidilfitri assistance distribution event in Lembah Pantai. He also urged everyone to avoid making offensive comments on social media, warning that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are actively monitoring the situation, and strict action will be taken against any legal violations.
During the event, Fahmi distributed Aidilfitri assistance to 30 family representatives. In total, 1,100 families received aid amounting to RM150 per family from the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament’s office.
Recent media reports indicated that discussions regarding the relocation of the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple, located on Jakel Group-owned land, are progressing smoothly between the stakeholders, with DBKL acting as a facilitator to ensure a seamless relocation process to a new site.
