Cabinet to Address Palestinian Commotion at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur: The recent commotion involving Palestinians at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL) is slated for discussion at the Cabinet meeting this Wednesday, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. The Cabinet is anticipated to receive a briefing from Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin concerning the latest updates on the incident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the commotion, which occurred on Saturday afternoon and gained attention on social media, was confirmed by the Malaysian Armed Forces to have stemmed from Palestinians’ desire to expedite their return to Palestine. This is not the first incident of its kind, with a similar situation arising in October last year where Palestinians expressed dissatisfaction about being housed at the transit centre and the movement restrictions they faced.

Malaysia had welcomed 127 Palestinians, including 41 injured individuals affected by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, on August 16 last year for medical treatment. The injured were treated at Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital, while their relatives stayed at WTKL.

Minister Fahmi Fadzil, addressing the viral videos related to the commotion and an incident at Masjid At-Taqwa in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, emphasized the need for the public to verify the authenticity of online content. He urged people to seek and understand the true context of any viral content to determine the timing and occurrence of events, as well as any actions taken by the authorities.

Fahmi highlighted the role of media practitioners in verifying viral content, particularly in determining the timeframe and the identity of those spreading it. This verification process, he noted, is crucial for ensuring accurate information dissemination.

Additionally, Fahmi mentioned that the Communications Ministry plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) to promote tourism products and convey key messages from the ministry and the government in alignment with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign.
