AADK Drone Unit Strengthens Monitoring, Enforcement Capabilities – Saifuddin Nasution

Kuala lumpur: The establishment of the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Drone Unit, equipped with 18 drones, will strengthen the agency's monitoring and enforcement capabilities, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He emphasized that the use of drones, including at night, would enable AADK to monitor drug abuse hotspots more effectively, while improving the accuracy of information before enforcement action is taken.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin Nasution highlighted that the drone unit would be capable of conducting flights to detect those involved in drug-related activities. He noted that previous monitoring efforts had identified 23,317 individuals suspected of involvement in such activities. The remarks were made during a press conference after witnessing the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Immigration Department (JIM).

Also present at the event were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, and Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. Saifuddin Nasution stated that data collected through drone surveillance would be directed to the operations room, enabling enforcement actions against identified individuals.

He further mentioned that AADK had launched a strategic plan to enhance its prevention and enforcement functions. "This plan will serve as the foundation for how AADK will operate in carrying out its prevention, enforcement, treatment, and rehabilitation functions," he added.

Earlier, during the Home Ministry's monthly assembly, Saifuddin Nasution launched the KDN Gen AI Platform and AADK Strategic Plan 2026-2030, alongside the AADK Drone Unit, as part of efforts to bolster drug enforcement and prevention initiatives in the country.
