Warisan to Contest All 73 Seats in Upcoming Sabah Election, Rules Out Alliances: Mohd Shafie

Kota kinabalu: The Warisan Party’s Supreme Council has reached a unanimous decision to contest all 73 seats in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly during the forthcoming 17th State Election (PRN17). Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal declared that the party will refrain from forming any coalitions or collaborations with other political parties for this election.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Shafie emphasized the party’s unified stance, stating, “The party has unanimously decided that our decision is to contest all 73 DUN seats. This means there will be no coalitions or collaborations. If you see photos or hear stories (that suggest otherwise), do not believe them. This is the party’s decision, not the president’s alone.” He conveyed these remarks at a press conference following the Warisan Supreme Council Meeting.

The 16th Sabah DUN is set to be automatically dissolved on November 11 if it is not dissolved earlier, thus setting the stage for the PRN17. Mohd Shafie highlighted that Warisan’s sole collaboration will be with the people of Sabah, focusing on addressing essential needs like a reliable water supply, electricity, and improved road infrastructure across the state.

Explaining the decision to proceed independently, Mohd Shafie reflected on past collaborations with various political entities, which he asserted failed to yield significant improvements for Sabah’s populace. He shared concerns regarding the motives of previous partners, stating, “The concern of the party’s leadership (about previous collaborations) is that they only want to know how many seats they will get. After getting the seats, they also want ministerial positions. If they don’t get them, they jump again, over and over. The experience we have been through can disrupt the unity of the people of Sabah.”
