Telaga air: A Vietnamese man has been remanded for four days following an incident where he allegedly attempted to snatch an 11-month-old baby while fleeing from a supermarket theft in Telaga Air. The incident occurred yesterday and has since drawn significant public attention.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Anuar Abd Rahman stated that the 36-year-old security guard was remanded until August 13. The remand is to facilitate investigations under several sections of the Penal Code, including Section 380 for theft, Section 324 for causing hurt, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
The incident was captured in a viral video, showing the suspect holding a plastic bag and a knife while attempting to take the baby from a woman’s arms. The event unfolded at 12:45 pm when a supermarket supervisor noticed the man trying to exit the premises with unpaid seafood.
As the supervisor intervened, the suspect managed to break free, seizing the baby while wielding a knife. However, supermarket staff and customers quickly subdued him and handed him over to the police upon their arrival.
The police chief confirmed that the suspect tested negative for drugs and has no prior criminal record. The investigation into the incident continues.
