Alor gajah: More than 6,000 serving and former personnel of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have benefited from the Veteran MyWira Programme since 2024, aimed at enhancing employability across various industries, including high-tech sectors.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari stated that over 140 ATM veterans have secured placements in sectors such as semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, security, education, and aviation. The programme, implemented in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) under the Human Resources Ministry, equips personnel and veterans with skills in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to meet industry demands and improve earning potential.
Adly highlighted the programme's focus on AI applications to empower veterans, not only in terms of health and welfare but also to improve their socio-economic standing. The initiative now assesses veterans' capabilities and potential career paths two years before retirement rather than after they leave the service. This was mentioned during the Alor Gajah parliamentary-level Jelajah AI MyMahir (JAM) event.
The Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) annually identifies 500 veterans for employment prospect studies to support a structured and sustainable transition into second careers. TalentCorp, in a statement, mentioned that the Alor Gajah edition was the 10th stop of the JAM programme, attracting nearly 300 entrepreneurs, students, and ATM veterans. The roadshow aims to cover 60 parliamentary constituencies nationwide, targeting 12,000 participants.
The JAM programme introduces participants to AI fundamentals, prompt engineering, AI ethics, and the application of AI in work, learning, careers, and business. It also focuses on AI for productivity, career development, small and medium enterprises, freelancing, and personal growth.
