Kuala lumpur: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has allocated about RM3 billion this year to support students pursuing higher education at institutions of higher learning. Its chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim stated that the allocation, channelled through PTPTN education loans, aims to ensure that no student is deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, students offered places at universities, polytechnics, and related institutions can apply for financing through the MyPTPTN application. Each year, PTPTN allocates about RM3 billion to assist both new and existing students. Norliza mentioned that PTPTN also provides an Advance Loan Payment (WPP) of RM1,500 to help new students meet initial expenses before registering at their institutions.
She further explained that the assistance could be used for registration fees, learning materials, and other initial expenses. Students in need of the WPP can apply through MyPTPTN. In addition, Norliza highlighted that PTPTN has introduced the PTPTN eKasih Children's Scholarship, launched recently in Johor, to assist students from low-income families.
The scholarship is designed to benefit 10,000 students nationwide in 2026, particularly those from households earning below RM4,000 a month. Norliza assured that should there be a need to assist more students, PTPTN would consider additional applications based on the stipulated eligibility criteria.
