Seremban: UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani emphasized that the party must cultivate leaders who are principled, trustworthy, and capable of uniting all races in Malaysia, aligning with the expectations of contemporary voters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johari highlighted that voters, particularly the younger demographic, demand leaders who embody knowledge, openness, transparency, and integrity. He addressed the need for leaders to be both locally and internationally aware and committed to pressing issues such as environmental conservation. These attributes are crucial, he noted, as young voters today hold high expectations for principled leadership that can be trusted to foster unity among diverse racial groups.
Johari delivered these remarks during his speech at the Seremban UMNO Division delegates’ meeting, urging the party to adopt a more dynamic and open approach to stay relevant in Malaysia’s challenging political environment. He acknowledged the difficulties in securing a strong majority due to the varied ideologies of today’s electorate.
He cautioned against assuming perpetual power and stressed the necessity of sharing power in a world where achieving a strong political majority is increasingly complex due to the diverse ideologies present. Johari’s statements underline the need for UMNO to adapt to the evolving political landscape to maintain its influence and relevance.
