Gopeng: Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident that the cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) can ensure that they retain the seats won in the last general election, its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. He emphasized that this confidence is based on observations and results from the Mahkota and Ayer Kuning by-elections.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid pointed out that BN had secured the Mahkota seat with a majority of 5,166 votes in the 15th general election (GE15). However, the by-election saw a significant increase, with a majority of 20,648 votes, attributed to the partnership with PH. He further highlighted the Ayer Kuning results, where BN’s majority increased from 2,213 votes in GE15 to 5,006 votes during the by-election.
During his speech at the officiation of the Gopeng UMNO Division Delegates’ Meeting, Ahmad Zahid, alongside Perak UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Gopeng UMNO Division chief Datuk Hang Tuah Din, emphasized that the cooperation with PH should be a str
ategic guide for leaders and grassroots members. He stressed that this collaboration is crucial for maintaining power and achieving dominance in the national political arena.
Ahmad Zahid cautioned against arrogance and the desire to operate independently, stating that embracing the current political reality through cooperation can lead to greater success. Meanwhile, Saarani indicated that Perak UMNO’s main strategy for GE16 would focus on attracting support from non-party members to maintain BN’s electoral victories.
