Transport Ministry to Evaluate Senior Citizen Driving Licence Renewal Proposal: Loke.

SEPANG: The Transport Ministry will review a proposal requiring senior citizens aged 65 and above to undergo competency and health assessments before renewing their Malaysian Driving Licence. Minister Anthony Loke stated that while the ministry welcomes the suggestion, further evaluation is essential before any decisions are finalized.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Loke emphasized the need for a detailed study of the proposal. He assured that the ministry will not hastily impose additional conditions on senior citizens. ‘Of course, there are implications, and we need to assess the advantages and disadvantages of introducing any new requirements,’ Loke mentioned during a press conference following the National Logistics Task Force meeting.

Loke’s comments came in response to questions regarding the relevance of requiring elderly drivers to undergo evaluations to renew their licences. The media had earlier reported that imposing such conditions could potentially reduce the rising number of road a
ccidents involving elderly drivers in Malaysia. Currently, there is no maximum age limit for driving in the country, so the proposal suggests that senior citizens who wish to continue driving should undergo competency and health assessments.

In a separate issue, Loke announced plans to develop a site in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, as the country’s logistics hub. The Negeri Sembilan government has expressed support for this initiative and is in the process of identifying suitable land for the development. Furthermore, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority provided a briefing on incentives aimed at boosting investment in the Smart Logistics Complex, which includes tax exemptions of up to 70 percent, as previously announced during the Budget 2025 presentation.
