SEPANG: The Perlis Inland Port (PIP) project in Chuping is on track for completion by July 2025, aiming to invigorate the economic landscape of Malaysia’s northern states, as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. This development comes with a strategic plan to shift the cargo operations from Padang Besar to PIP, pending Cabinet approval within the next two months.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke emphasized the project’s potential to bolster economic activities across the northern region and Peninsular Malaysia. Following a meeting of the National Logistics Task Force, he highlighted the Transport Ministry’s commitment to this initiative, which promises enhanced cargo handling capabilities between Thailand and Malaysia. This transition will necessitate coordinated efforts among diverse agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Immigration Department, to ensure seamless operations and minimize disruptions in export-import activities.

He stated, “This project has the potential to unlock and generate economic growth, demonstrating that the MADANI government focuses on advancing all states.’ The PIP project, designed to position Perlis as a pivotal border city and international logistics hub, will be executed through a public-private partnership. While the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority will manage external infrastructure, Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd will oversee the port’s development and associated components.
