Shah Alam: Training modules for security guards and auxiliary police are set to be enhanced to align with current potential threats, particularly in public spaces. This initiative follows a shooting incident at a shopping mall in Shah Alam last Saturday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), who oversee the training of security guards and auxiliary police, will examine the details of the current training protocols. Saifuddin emphasized that before beginning their duties, it is mandatory for auxiliary police and security guards to undergo training by the police force. He noted that incidents like the recent shooting provide a new perspective, necessitating updates to training modules and syllabuses, as well as enhancements to training requirements.
Saifuddin announced plans to instruct the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and Deputy Inspector-General Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay to investigate measures for improving security at business complexes and public areas. He also mentioned that relevant officers will engage with the security industry to discuss improvements to training modules, with the goal of addressing public safety concerns.
The minister assured that public and national safety remains a top priority for the ministry, emphasizing there is no need for public panic following the recent incident. The PDRM’s readiness was demonstrated by their swift identification of the shooting suspect, who was also found to have a criminal record. Saifuddin highlighted the strict licensing process for firearm possession, stressing that possessing a firearm without a license is a serious criminal offense.
The shooting incident at the Setia Alam shopping mall resulted in an injury to a cleaning worker. Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain reported that the suspect, a local man in his 30s, had been identified. Ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend the suspect are being conducted by the Selangor police with support from Bukit Aman.
