Teluk intan: Teluk Intan is projected to become a flood-free area by 2028 through the Phase Two Teluk Intan Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB), also known as the Teluk Intan Smart RTB project, which is currently in progress. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Nga Kor Ming has announced that this high-impact project, with a budget of RM80.5 million, aims to resolve over five decades of flood-related issues for residents, with completion expected by May 19, 2028.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister expressed optimism about the transformation Teluk Intan will undergo within the next 30 months. The RTB project is set to include dedicated cycling and jogging tracks, and there are plans for a floating restaurant. Datuk Nga Kor Ming conveyed his confidence that upon completion in 2028, Teluk Intan will be declared a flood-free zone.
During a briefing on the Phase One Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB) for Sungai Perak and the Phase Two Teluk Intan RTB Zone A project, Datuk Nga Kor Ming officially launched the Teluk Intan RTB Zone A Phase Two project, which began in December last year. He noted that the Teluk Intan Smart RTB project could become a new tourism attraction, enhancing the town's appeal alongside the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan.
Upon completion, a beautification programme will be initiated by the ministry, in collaboration with various agencies and departments, including a large-scale tree-planting initiative. The White Bucida Tree has been selected for planting along the seven-kilometre cycling and jogging corridor. Additionally, a tree donation campaign has been launched, with each tree available for RM1,000, and donors' names will be permanently engraved on the trees as recognition for their contributions.
Datuk Nga Kor Ming highlighted that the initiative is aimed at fostering a sense of ownership among contributors and encouraging greater community involvement in the town's development and beautification.
