Seremban: People in Negeri Sembilan, especially civil servants and retirees, are advised to be vigilant and use their discretion to avoid becoming victims of fraud. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun emphasized this caution following a report of an increase in commercial crime in the state, which recorded losses totaling RM47.74 million from January to March this year, compared with RM33.84 million during the same period last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aminuddin highlighted that fraud cases are affecting not only senior citizens or retirees but also young individuals who are being targeted by scammers. He noted that scammers have become more cunning and target all age groups, recounting a personal incident where his own child nearly fell victim to a scam related to gym membership. Fortunately, Aminuddin’s child identified the scam in time, resulting in a loss of only RM200 out of an intended RM2,000.
Aminuddin shared these insights with reporters after attending the Negeri Sembilan State Government Administration Retirees Appreciation Ceremony 2024 at Palm Seremban Hotel. State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim was also present at the event.
The Menteri Besar, who also serves as the Port Dickson member of parliament, reassured that the state government will continue its collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and related agencies to comprehensively combat fraudulent activities.
