Penang: A total of 11 premises, including a childcare centre, were ordered to close and 170 compound fines amounting to RM51,450 were issued during the Integrated Public Health Enforcement Operation (OSKA) conducted across Penang.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Penang Health Department (JKNPP) stated that the operation, held from Monday to yesterday, aimed to enforce four public health laws. These laws include the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852), the Food Act 1983 (Act 281), the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 (Act 154), and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Act 2025 (Act 342).
A total of 78 food premises were inspected, resulting in 73 notices issued with compounds amounting to RM22,450. Ten of these premises were ordered to close immediately for not meeting food safety standards. The statement further highlighted that one childcare centre was ordered to close under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Act 2025 due to concerns over the spread of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).
Additionally, 96 premises were inspected under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024. This resulted in 78 notices amounting to RM19,500 in fines for offences such as smoking in prohibited areas, failure by premises owners to display no-smoking signs, and facilitating smoking in smoke-free zones.
