Kuala lumpur: Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will be in Kuala Lumpur to attend the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) from Tuesday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced that Minister Balakrishnan will also participate in several related meetings, including the Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs), the 26th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), the 15th East Asia Summit (EAS) FMM, and the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), scheduled from July 8 to 11.
Minister Balakrishnan is expected to exchange views with his counterparts on regional and international developments at these meetings. The discussions will focus on advancing regional peace and stability, as well as promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
The MFA highlighted that the AMM would reaffirm the ministers’ commitment to ASEAN unity and centrality. They will explore ways to advance ASEAN integration and community building against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions and geoeconomic uncertainties.
Additionally, the ministers will continue their discussions on strengthening cooperation in emerging growth areas such as the digital economy, green energy, and supply chain connectivity. These discussions align with Malaysia’s Chairmanship theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.
A key topic on the agenda will be the preparations for Timor-Leste’s admission to ASEAN as the 11th member during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October 2025.
Furthermore, ASEAN will engage its dialogue partners during the PMCs, including Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia, and the United States, to review ongoing cooperation.
