Kuala lumpur: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has recalled 8,322 Kia, Yamaha, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles to undergo inspections due to identified defects in their structure, equipment, or systems. Its director-general, Aedy Fadly Ramli, stated that the recall involves multiple models and years, each with specific issues that necessitate prompt examination and rectification.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the recall includes 5,123 units of the Kia Rio UB model from 2010 to 2017. These vehicles are at risk of experiencing a short circuit that could potentially cause the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) to catch fire. Additionally, 1,649 units of Yamaha MT09 and 1,369 units of Tracer 9 GT, spanning from November 2021 to February 2025, are being recalled due to improper functioning of the Throttle Position Sensors (TPS). Another 149 units of the Yamaha Tenere 700 model from 2023 to 2024 face clutch issues that require inspection.

Furthermore, 32 Mercedes-Benz cars, including models S 580 e, GLC 300 4MATIC, EQS 500, AMG SL 43, EQE 53, and EQS 53 from 2023 and 2025, are being recalled for improperly installed fuse boxes. The recall aims to prevent potential crashes due to these defects, with owners being contacted by manufacturers to arrange inspection slots.

Aedy Fadly emphasized the importance of owners planning ahead to facilitate timely recall and inspection processes. For further information, vehicle owners are encouraged to contact or visit any authorized sales and service centers. He reassured that all affected components will be replaced at no cost to the owners, with expenses covered by the manufacturers. The JPJ will oversee the recall process to ensure that all involved vehicles are inspected and certified safe.
