Selangor: The Selangor government will facilitate assistance for 44 families in Kampung Indian Settlement, Gombak, who are required to vacate their homes to make way for more orderly development of the area. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the assistance will aim to ease residents' burdens, including covering rental costs during the construction of roads and drainage systems, as well as the implementation of flood mitigation measures.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Gombak District and Land Office (PDT) has engaged in discussions with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) to rebuild more comfortable homes, with costs and payment mechanisms affordable to residents. The redevelopment process is expected to commence next month after the Thaipusam celebration, allowing residents time for festive preparations.
Amirudin stated that PDT Gombak will coordinate the overall efforts to ensure smooth implementation, benefiting residents in the long term and improving infrastructure quality in Gombak. He chaired an engagement session with Kampung Indian Settlement residents and relevant agencies to explain the state government's systematic development plans and to gather residents' feedback before the project's implementation.
The engagement process, as noted by Amirudin, is crucial to prevent any misinterpretation of the initiative as racially motivated or oppressive. He emphasized the need for a more organized and structured development of Kampung Indian Settlement, as some houses were built on road reserves, leading to potential issues such as inadequate road access, complications in land ownership transfers, and flood risks.
Amirudin further highlighted the area's lack of road buffers and basic drainage systems, which are critical to preventing rainwater accumulation, underlining the necessity for intervention.
