Johor bahru: An official announcement regarding the fare for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link service will soon be made jointly by the Transport Ministries of Malaysia and Singapore. Transport Minister Anthony Loke disclosed that discussions on the fare have been progressing smoothly and positively, signaling an impending joint declaration from both governments.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Loke emphasized the bilateral nature of the RTS project, stating that any announcements regarding key operational dates and fare structures will be coordinated between the two nations' Transport Ministers. He shared these insights during a press conference held at the RTS Link Bukit Chagar Station, in conjunction with a visit to assess the progress and operational readiness of the RTS Link Project.
Minister Loke addressed questions about whether the RTS Link fare had been finalized, explaining that RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) is in the final stages of discussions with the Malaysian and Singaporean governments to finalize the fare and payment mechanisms. He highlighted that RTSO aims for a balanced approach in determining the fare, considering both the interests of users and the long-term operational sustainability of the service.
Previously, Minister Loke mentioned that RTSO was conducting a study on the fare, with expectations for finalization in the third quarter of this year. During his visit, he expressed satisfaction with the physical progress and comfort level of the RTS Link, noting that passengers would enjoy various facilities but would need to navigate several layers of the system to use the service.
Minister Loke assured that his ministry would work to ensure adequate signage for users' convenience, instructing MRT Corp to install more signage to facilitate navigation. The RTS Link is scheduled to begin operations on January 1 of the coming year, with the capacity to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. The system will connect the RTS Link Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore.
