Revoke Ramadan Bazaar Licence if Traders Sell It – PM

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned that Ramadan bazaar licences found to have been resold will be revoked immediately. He stressed that this had to be done as lately there have been certain parties who sold their licences for easy profits.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that if an association charges a small fee for monitoring and cleanliness, it is understandable, but selling licences is unacceptable. He emphasized the need to identify the licence holders and take immediate action if they transfer the licence.

He pointed out that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had already taken action against traders who committed such offences, setting an example for other local authorities. Anwar highlighted the importance of such enforcement to prevent additional charges beyond the set rate, which could impact traders trying to earn extra income during Ramadan.

The Prime Minister warned that failure to address these issues could lead to a broader breakdown of governance in the country, affecting everything from small stalls to large projects. He suggested extending the enforcement to ports and airports, where some violations have been observed.

Additionally, Anwar invited all Muslims in Malaysia to prepare themselves ahead of Ramadan in March. He encouraged reflection on the essence and message of Ramadan for a deeper appreciation of the holy month, which emphasizes discipline, spiritual strength, and concern for the marginalized.
