Padang Besar: The remand order for a 21-year-old unemployed man, who was apprehended with 16.6 kilograms of cannabis in Padang Besar on January 22, has been extended for an additional six days starting tomorrow. This extension aims to aid ongoing investigations into the case involving cannabis valued at RM51,646.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Padang Besar deputy police chief Superintendent Sarih Salleh confirmed the remand extension, which was approved by the Kangar Court Magistrate, Nurshahida Abdul Rahim. The initial remand order, which commenced on January 24, concluded today.
The arrest took place last Tuesday, as reported by Bernama, when the man was believed to be transporting the cannabis in four boxes to a courier company in Padang Besar. Perlis deputy police chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Baderulhisham Baharudin, noted that inspections of the boxes uncovered compressed lumps and liquid suspected to be cannabis. The man is suspected to have been operating as a courier for drug deliveries.
The individual allegedly received RM800 for each delivery of the boxes, and the ongoing investigation is being conducted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
