Sungai Burung: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced an RM28 million allocation to upgrade and widen roads in Kampung Nelayan Sungai Burung, here. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, emphasized that the funds are designated to improve accessibility in the region, a popular tourist destination.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the significance of enhancing the road infrastructure to accommodate the influx of visitors to Sungai Burung, a renowned tourist spot in Bagan Datuk, Perak. He noted the absence of a five-star hotel in the area and expressed intentions to establish at least a four-star hotel. However, he stressed the necessity of road improvements to ensure visitors can travel smoothly without encountering congestion due to narrow roads.
Ahmad Zahid announced the new allocation as an increase from the previous RM10 million. In his capacity as the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, he also mentioned plans to meet with Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu to address challenges faced by local fishermen.
Earlier, Heng Lai Hen, chairman of the Hilir Perak Fishermen’s Association, pointed out that local fishermen were struggling to renew their fishing licenses due to an unaffordable requirement from the Department of Fisheries Malaysia to upgrade their boat engines. This issue has hindered their ability to go out to sea, affecting their livelihoods.
