Kuala krai: The remand order against a married couple, who were arrested in Kuala Krai on suspicion of masterminding a ganja trafficking operation valued at RM3.1 million, has been extended for an additional seven days. The extension will last until next Monday, as announced by Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the couple, aged 31 and 49, are currently undergoing detailed investigations to provide further assistance in the ongoing case. The woman, a chicken trader, and her husband, an e-hailing driver, are expected to face charges on July 21. Datuk Mohd Yusoff mentioned that no additional arrests have been made so far, and investigations are still being conducted to determine if the couple has connections to other trafficking syndicates.
The operation last Sunday was reported by Bernama, highlighting that police disrupted a drug trafficking syndicate using cashew nut packets. The arrest of the local couple led to the seizure of drugs worth approximately RM3.1 million. The couple was apprehended around 4 pm at Jalan Padang Sembilan, Kuala Krai, after police noticed suspicious activity involving their Proton X70 vehicle.
On a different note, Mohd Yusoff shared insights into the crime statistics in Kelantan. For the first quarter from January to June 2025, there was a reported decrease in index crime by 14.3 percent, equating to 162 fewer cases. However, violent crimes saw an uptick, with rape cases increasing by 26.8 percent, armed robbery by 400 percent, and injury cases by 18.8 percent. Mohd Yusoff emphasized the necessity to bolster monitoring, community education, and enforcement in identified hot spots.
