Preacher Under Probe Lost Credentials in 2022, Says MAIS

Shah alam: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) revoked the teaching credentials of a preacher in 2022, who was recently arrested by police over suspected involvement in criminal activities. The action was taken due to non-compliance with religious guidelines and legal requirements.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin revealed that the preacher was previously detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department in September 2024 for delivering teachings without valid credentials. This act constitutes an offence under Section 119 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003, and the case is currently being heard at the Syariah Subordinate Court. A surau administrator is also under investigation for allegedly facilitating the unauthorised lecture.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim stated that authorities are investigating the preacher for allegedly disseminating sex videos involving his wives and several other women. This adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the preacher’s activities.

Salehuddin mentioned that since 2022, MAIS had revoked the accreditation of 35 individuals due to violations of set conditions, including deviating from the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed, engaging in criminal activities, and holding political positions. Additionally, several others have had their teaching credentials suspended pending investigations under relevant laws.

He further emphasized that all policies and decisions by the religious authorities are made with careful consideration and have received approval from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as the Head of Islam in the state. The measures are intended to uphold religious integrity and compliance within the community.
