Kuala lumpur: The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) is set to review Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent proposal to create special youth committees within mosques. This initiative aims to boost youth engagement in mosque-centered activities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Dr. Zulkifli Hasan announced that the review process will involve collaboration with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi). The department supports the Prime Minister's vision of empowering youth to take an active role in planning and executing programs that position mosques as pivotal centers for community development and the moral upbringing of the younger generation.
Dr. Zulkifli emphasized the significance of mosques in educating and nurturing the character of the ummah, taking inspiration from the Prophet Muhammad SAW's example through Masjid Nabawi. He highlighted the need to make mosques more inviting for young people. To this end, the department has implemented various initiatives, such as the Kariah MADANI Programme and Kuliah Zuhur, which feature young asatizah (teachers) at the Parliament Surau.
The minister also mentioned plans to expand youth involvement through the Himpunan Asatizah Muda Kebangsaan (HAMKA) event in February. This gathering will bring together over 1,000 young asatizah, aiming to empower community development and share influential knowledge. The proposal from the Prime Minister, made yesterday, encourages mosques to establish dedicated youth committees to enable young individuals to lead in organizing community and religious activities.
