Kuala lumpur: More companies need to leverage 5G technology to boost productivity, innovation, and competitiveness in an effort to strengthen the country's digital economy, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a post on the X platform today, he said the matter was discussed during a courtesy visit today from an Ericsson delegation led by its president and chief executive officer B¶rje Ekholm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister stated that the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss developments in digital technology, the expansion of 5G usage, and the potential for closer cooperation to strengthen the economy. Anwar emphasized the need to develop greener and more sustainable telecommunication networks in line with the nation's net-zero emissions aspiration.
Anwar expressed appreciation for Ericsson's confidence in Malaysia, highlighting the company's recognition of the country's progress in developing a strong digital infrastructure, including 5G networks and data centres, as well as efforts to enhance digital security and sovereignty.
He also welcomed Ericsson's commitment to developing local talent through training programmes, technology transfer, and collaborations with local universities and educational institutions. Anwar noted that this effort is critical in producing a skilled workforce ready to meet the requirements of the economy of the future.
The Prime Minister further remarked on the value of the long-standing relationship with Ericsson and expressed confidence that cooperation will continue to be strengthened based on stability and trust. He acknowledged that continued cooperation has the potential to open up more opportunities to drive the growth of the digital economy and national prosperity.
