Perak: The state government of Perak is gearing up to implement a ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes or vapes starting in October. A. Sivanesan, the Chairman of the Perak Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee, announced that the Perak State Health Department (JKN) is currently drafting a working paper on the proposed ban.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sivanesan stated that the working paper is being prepared under the leadership of Dr. Feisul Idzwan Mustapha, the director of Perak JKN. The aim is to finalize the document swiftly so that it can be presented to the State Executive Council (MMK) for a decision on enforcement, targeted for October.
Sivanesan made these remarks while attending the Orthopedic Symposium Programme on the latest developments and best practices in the orthopedic field, held at the Kinta River Front Hotel. The event was organized by the Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH).
Earlier, on June 4, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad mentioned that the state government is thoroughly assessing the necessity of banning electronic cigarette sales in Perak. The issue has been discussed in the MMK, although several aspects still require careful consideration.
Despite acknowledging potential unrest among vape operators due to the impending ban, Sivanesan emphasized that the initiative is in the public’s best interest, particularly concerning health benefits. “We are prepared for complaints on this matter, but we will proceed with what is beneficial for the people,” he affirmed.
Additionally, Sivanesan highlighted that the symposium saw participation from over 90 orthopedic specialists nationwide. He encouraged other private hospitals in Perak to follow the example set by PCSH, as the program aims to impart knowledge and distribute information on the latest technologies in the field.
