Penang Police Urge Merdeka Convoy Organisers To Prioritise Road Safety

Penang: Penang police have advised organisers of convoys held in conjunction with the National Month celebrations to inform the authorities about their activities to obtain the police's views and comply with traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim stated that police do not prevent convoy activities, but participants must avoid dangerous or careless acts that could endanger themselves and other road users. He emphasized the importance of not going overboard with convoy activities as it could pose safety risks. Lim urged that traffic laws be properly observed for safety and that the vehicles are in good condition.

He conveyed this message to reporters after flagging off the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Ipoh Superbiker's Club (ISBC) Charity Motorcycle Convoy Programme in conjunction with the 69th National Day and 219th Police Day celebrations. The event saw the presence of Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, who represented Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

Lim highlighted that the advice was particularly relevant ahead of the National Month celebrations, as the number of motorcycle and vehicle convoys is expected to increase as the public organizes various activities in conjunction with National Day this month.
