Kuala lumpur: National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are demonstrating significant maturity by effectively challenging China’s top badminton pairs, who have historically been difficult opponents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, national women’s doubles coach Rosman Razak has noted that the world number three pair has developed mental resilience and no longer succumbs easily when faced with challenging situations during matches. Previously, Pearly and Thinaah would become disoriented if things didn’t go as planned on the court. However, this is no longer the case as they now persistently fight back and often regain their form and determination mid-match.
The six-week hiatus from tournaments, preceding the Japan and China Opens this month, provides an opportunity for Pearly-Thinaah to focus on physical conditioning and injury recovery. Rosman emphasized that this is an optimal period to address recovery, conditioning, and injury prevention. However, there remains uncertainty about whether the duo can maintain their momentum or if they will need time to rediscover their rhythm.
Rosman also confirmed that Pearly-Thinaah, along with Teoh Mei Xing and Go Pei Kee, have secured their spots for the 2025 World Championships in Paris this August. When discussing potential candidates for the second national doubles slot, Rosman highlighted that all players have equal opportunities and must compete fairly for their positions. He mentioned that Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting currently have an edge over other juniors, although the competition remains intense.
Additionally, Rosman identified young pair Low Zi Yu and Dania Sofea Zaidi as promising prospects due to their encouraging results in lower-tier international competitions. However, he stressed that they require more time and exposure to develop fully, cautioning against comparisons with the more experienced Pearly and Thinaah.
