Kuala Lumpur: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has scheduled five new proceedings in conjunction with the upcoming Parliament session next week, said its chairman, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin. She indicated that these proceedings will address critical areas such as the development of Kuala Lumpur land under the Federal Territories Department, and will involve the Director-General of Lands and Mines Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the PAC will also examine the proposed leasing of electric multiple unit (EMU) trains under the Transport Ministry, Railway Assets Corporation, and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad. Additionally, the management of public airports will be scrutinized, focusing on the Finance Ministry, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Khazanah Nasional, and the Employees Provident Fund.
Mas Ermieyati, who also serves as Bersatu Srikandi chief, made these announcements while speaking to reporters after officiating the Melaka Bersatu Srikandi Service Centre in Taman Tambak Harmoni. The Masjid Tanah MP highlighted that other proceedings will cover Khazanah Nasional’s domestic investments, seeking insights from the Finance Ministry and the sovereign wealth fund itself.
She further elaborated that the PAC will delve into the issues surrounding the rising cost of health insurance premiums, private hospital charges, and their impact on public healthcare. This examination will involve the Finance Ministry, Health Ministry, and Bank Negara Malaysia.
For the public airport management proceedings, the PAC has established terms of reference for its members to tackle pertinent issues, such as the delisting of MAHB from Bursa Malaysia, high ticket prices, and delays in resuming aerotrain services. The PAC’s ambitious agenda for the year includes tabling 25 reports and conducting over 150 meetings on matters of public interest and the Auditor-General’s Report, surpassing last year’s 148 meetings and 22 reports.
Furthermore, addressing concerns over Khazanah Nasional’s loss-making investments, the PAC has organized a proceeding specifically targeting its domestic investments to gather explanations and statements from the sovereign wealth fund.
