No Further Action in Teoh Beng Hock Case, Confirms Attorney-General’s Chambers

Shah Alam: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has announced that no further action will be taken regarding the death of Teoh Beng Hock, who died on July 16, 2009, outside the corridor on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, Selangor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AGC’s decision follows a comprehensive review of all evidence contained in the investigation papers submitted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The AGC stated that the evidence was insufficient to establish any offence against any individual under the law, leading to the decision for no further action.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court had previously ordered the police to complete the investigation into Teoh’s death by May this year. This order was issued by Justice Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh (now a Court of Appeal Judge) following a judicial review application by Teoh’s parents. The application was against the Inspector-General of Police, PDRM’s Director of Criminal Investigation, PDRM, and the Malaysian government.

Teoh w
as discovered dead after providing a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam. He served as the political secretary to Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, who was Selangor’s state executive councillor for local government, illegal factory legalisation, and new village development at the time.

The Shah Alam Coroner’s Court ruled in 2011 that Teoh’s death was neither suicide nor homicide and found no third-party involvement. Later, a Royal Commission of Inquiry concluded that he died by suicide. However, in 2014, the Court of Appeal overturned the open verdict and ruled that his death resulted from unlawful acts by unknown individuals.
