KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Army has announced the completion of a new military control post at South Felda, a strategic move aimed at strengthening border security in Sabah. The RM1.8 million facility, completed on September 27, is part of the government’s broader initiative to counter smuggling and human trafficking threats along the nation’s borders.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Army chief Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan emphasized the significance of the South Felda Post as a crucial component of the country’s border security strategy. “With the establishment of this post, we now have 12 military security posts in Sabah, with two more under construction,” he stated. The increased number of posts is expected to enhance the army’s operational efficiency in controlling the area.
The South Felda Post is equipped with modern facilities, including administrative blocks, residences, and tactical communication systems for operational integration. It began operations with a platoon of military personnel on December 3. Additional assets like solar electric systems have also been acquired, aligning with the army’s transformation towards a future-ready force.
The strategic location of the post, just 14 kilometers from the border, positions it as a vital defense asset and a buffer zone protecting local communities from potential threats. The successful establishment of the post resulted from collaboration among the federal government, state authorities, and Felda, with the Ministry of Economy providing funding and the Ministry of Defence overseeing implementation.
The initiative underscores the Malaysian government’s commitment to bolstering national security through strategic investments and inter-agency cooperation.
