National Unity Ministry Allocates RM2.1 Million for Student Volunteer Initiatives

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of National Unity has approved an allocation of RM2.1 million for the implementation of MADANI Berkhidmat: Misi Sukarelawan Siswa in Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang, Perak, and Vietnam, as well as other volunteer programmes this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang announced the decision during the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS). The meeting addressed various agendas, including reviewing YSS’s achievements from the previous year and setting the direction for the current year.

Aaron emphasized the importance of YSS developing a comprehensive volunteering policy or action plan to serve as a national framework for strengthening the volunteer movement. The goal is to involve all government agencies in voluntary work in a structured manner.

“YSS needs to play a proactive role as a government agency. The implementation of the programme must be focused, and attention must be given to Misi Sukarelawan Siswa, Tuisyen KAMI, Ejen Perpaduan, and the student volunteer leadership development programmes,” Aaron stated in a press release following the meeting.

To date, YSS has cultivated 2,153 student volunteer leaders who have successfully carried out 9,665 community projects across the nation. Aaron also mentioned that the meeting resolved to rebrand the ‘Program Ini Warisan Kita: Misi Sukarelawan Siswa’ as ‘MADANI Berkhidmat Sukarelawan Siswa’.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted YSS’s achievements from the previous year, which included executing five student volunteer missions across 20 locations in Vietnam, Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah, and Kelantan. These efforts resulted in 735 community projects, contributing 4,539 volunteer hours and benefiting 146,211 individuals across various local communities.
