Song: Works Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi has reminded the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) in the Song area to avoid misusing government allocations. The Kapit member of parliament emphasized the importance of using these funds effectively for the local community’s benefit, underscoring the need for proper governance, including the preparation of expenditure reports. “The assistance we provide is for the well-being of the community. Use it prudently, report its usage transparently and never misuse it,” he stated.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta made these remarks at the JKKK Cheque and Student Incentives handover ceremony, alongside Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, in Song today. During the event, RM448,000 was allocated to 45 JKKKs in the Song area. Areas under village head Vincent Jugah received RM174,500, while those under village head Sumpeng Jinggai received RM273,500. The assistance was distributed as RM500 for each door (family) of a longhouse, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all families.
In addition to the funds for JKKKs, Nanta distributed incentives totaling RM52,500 to 105 students from the Song district pursuing higher education. Several non-governmental organizations in the area also benefited from financial assistance. He encouraged the younger generation, especially students in Song and Kapit, to leverage the state government’s policy, which will fully fund Sarawakian students’ studies at universities and higher learning institutions in Borneo starting next year.
In another update, Nanta mentioned that the Ulu Katibas Bridge construction at Sungai Bangkit, with a budget of RM35 million, has already been tendered. Furthermore, the construction of a seven-kilometer road, costing RM70 million, is slated for tendering soon.
