MOTAC Urges Immediate Submission of Diesel Usage Data for Tour Bus Operators

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has called on tour bus operators and tourism associations to urgently submit their diesel usage data and related documents. This request is essential for the government to assess the appropriate forms of assistance in response to the escalating diesel prices.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MOTAC emphasized the importance of this data for the government to accurately evaluate the increase in operational costs faced by operators. This evaluation will help determine suitable forms and rates of tax incentives. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has expressed its willingness to consider proposals for aid to tour bus operators, contingent upon receiving complete and accurate data.

MOTAC highlighted that it has previously requested associations and operators to provide diesel usage data and fuel cost comparisons before and after the Middle East crisis. However, the ministry has not yet received the necessary information and documents.

The ministry acknowledged the memorandum from nine tourism associations regarding the impact of the diesel price hike on tour bus operations. Engagement sessions have been held with representatives of these associations to gather direct feedback on industry challenges.

MOTAC stressed that assistance measures cannot be determined without a comprehensive understanding of the industry's current situation. An incomplete picture could result in measures that do not meet the real needs of operators, leading to potential dissatisfaction.

The ministry reiterated its call for all associations and operators who have not yet submitted the required data to do so promptly. This will enable the government to expedite the evaluation process and implement assistance measures that are targeted, fair, and effective.

MOTAC assured that it remains committed to the sustainability of the tourism industry and the well-being of the people. Follow-up measures will be implemented in stages following a comprehensive assessment that considers the country's fiscal position and sustainable economic growth.
