Sarawak: Sarawak's air quality deteriorated today, with four areas recording hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9 am, up from three areas yesterday. The Department of Environment (DOE)'s Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed that Sri Aman was the latest area to record a hazardous API reading. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the API reading at the Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) monitoring station reached 475, followed by Samarahan with a reading of 334, Sri Aman at 330, and Kuching at 324. These hazardous readings indicate severe air quality issues in these regions. Additionally, three areas recorded very unhealthy API readings, with Sarikei registering 271, Sibu at 219, and Mukah at 214. Meanwhile, unhealthy API readings were reported in several other regions: Samalaju recorded 180, Miri at 171, Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) at 169, Kapit at 164, Bintulu at 161, and Limbang at 159. An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air qualit y, 51 to 100 is considered moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and any reading above 300 is categorized as hazardous. API figures are updated hourly based on readings from 68 monitoring stations nationwide.
