Kuala lumpur: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for Sabrie Rusli, a 32-year-old fisherman feared missing after his boat capsized in the waters off Pulau Tenggol last Thursday, has been called off today after no clues or discoveries were detected.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kemaman Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Abdul Halim Hamzah stated that the search operation covered approximately 801.22 square nautical miles. The search was conducted systematically, considering factors like weather conditions, sea states, currents, and the possibility of the victim drifting.

Commander Abdul Halim explained that a variety of search methods were employed throughout the operation, including surface searches, sonar technology, diving operations, and the use of a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to detect any potential clues or objects related to the victim. Despite these efforts, no evidence linking to the victim was found, leading to the decision to end the operation after all identified search sectors were covered and no new information emerged.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) extended its gratitude to all agencies, rescue teams, the maritime community, and all parties involved directly or indirectly in the operation. Although the SAR operation has concluded, MMEA assets conducting routine patrols will continue to monitor the area for any new information or discoveries regarding the victim.

Earlier reports by Bernama indicated that Sabrie was believed to be missing after his fiberglass boat capsized in the waters off Pulau Tenggol at 5:00 pm last Thursday. The incident reportedly occurred as he was returning from a fishing trip that began at 9:00 am.
